Hesley Guide House is a single storey building located near to the main car park and reception area in the Scout Activity Centre at Hesley Wood in Chapeltown, South Yorkshire. It is conveniently located near the MI, Sheffield and Rotherham making it easy to get to and from anywhere in the UK.
Guide House was originally opened in 1978, but after extensive renovation made possible by grants from the National Lottery’s “Reaching Communities” Fund it was reopened in September 2011. It sleeps a maximum of 37 and is fully accessible for people with disabilities.
The house has a large activity / dining room and a fully fitted kitchen which is well equipped with two range cookers, two fridges, a dishwasher, a microwave, a toaster, a hot water boiler and ample cooking pots, utensils and crockery. A freezer, tumble dryer and cleaning equipment can be found in the store room.
The sleeping accommodation is comprised of two bedrooms with double bunks, a leader’s room and two bedrooms each equipped with an electric adjustable bed and a single bed for a carer if required. These rooms and the leader’s room also contain a guest bed.
There is a wet room with easy access for wheelchairs which has a shower seat and an accessible toilet plus 5 toilets and 5 showers
At the rear of the house is an area which can be used to for outdoor activities or camping and a variety of outdoor play equipment is available for your use.
Please note that trailer tents, caravans, motor homes and camper vans are not allowed to use this space.
Hesley Wood’s activities are available through the Scout office and are staffed by qualified and experienced instructors. All safety equipment is provided and regularly tested to national standards. For further information contact the centre.

Hesley Wood Guide House badges are available from the booking out secretary. Cost = £1 per badge. The cost of badges purchased will be added onto the invoice for your stay at Hesley so that payment for these is included in your cheque total. Badges can also be purchased from our online shop.
